Bledsoe County Correctional Complex provides 1,540 total beds, including 24 maximum security, 192 close security, 1,024 medium security, 300 minimum security and eight medical/infirmary beds). The complex includes an administration building; core building with visitation, medical, dining and vocational areas; six minimum, medium and maximum housing buildings; a sally port; a water tower; and warehouses.
The design goal was to create an efficient and safe environment that meets the needs of the inmate population and the staff. The primary cooling and heating systems are ground source geothermal heat pumps. Recognized as the largest of its type in the state, the geothermal field system consists of a 1,200 ton horizontal closed-loop system of 580 wells to depths of 500 feet.
