Overview

The redevelopment plans for the Boca Raton Regional Hospital campus call for the new nine-story Gloria Drummond Patient Tower, slated for completion in 2025. Patients will be welcomed into the tower’s new lobby, which features retail spaces, dining options, meeting facilities, a sanctuary, outdoor courtyards, and other conveniences. The tower will include private patient rooms, 20 operating rooms, two hybrid operating rooms with ceiling-mounted IMRIS, one hybrid MRI, a radiology suite, a public bistro, doctors’ dining, a pharmacy, an intensive care unit, and a grand entrance.

Additionally, the existing patient rooms in the current hospital building will undergo comprehensive renovation to convert them into private units. The Marcus Neuroscience Institute is also expanding its services for neurovascular/stroke, central nervous system tumors, spine, and epilepsy/seizure disorders.

A new central energy plant will support the expansion, featuring a combined chilled water capacity of 6,900 tons from three 2,300-ton chillers. The hydronic heating water plant will utilize five 5,000 MBH natural gas hot water boilers, supplemented by fuel oil backups. Normal power will be sourced from six paralleled 2000 kVA utility transformers connected to three separate 4160V service entrance switchboards in a main-tie-main-tie-main setup. Additionally, four 2500kW diesel standby generators will be sized for N+1 redundancy and supplied by three 20,000-gallon underground diesel tanks, providing 96 hours of full-load operations. Natural gas access will provide extended operational capability beyond this period.

The fire alarm system, compliant with NFPA-72 and NFPA-101, will include four hours of battery backup and cover the CEP and new buildings. It will be integrated into the existing building systems. The fire pump will be relocated and upgraded to a 1500 gpm, 120 psi electric pump to accommodate the new tower.

Enhancing patient care and outcomes through technology remains a primary focus. TLC is collaborating with Baptist Health South Florida and Boca Raton Regional Hospital to establish a roadmap for introducing new technologies across the campus.

The patient tower aims to achieve LEED BD+C: Healthcare v4 Certification and WELL v2 Certification.
