Leadership, just like designing a project, is best accomplished as a team. I’m inspired daily to develop our leaders. Each unique individual is committed to the TLC team and trusted to build great teams and do awesome work.
Solving customer challenges with the latest advances in engineering is what we do. TLC is progressive about offering sustainability and human health based solutions to age old built environment challenges.
Engineering for the healthcare industry is rewarding knowing that my work is going directly into the safety and well-being of other human beings. I chose TLC because of their emphasis on healthcare design. I always knew I wanted to do healthcare design, so when I learned about TLC, I quickly realized they were the perfect fit for me.
I am proud as a leader at TLC because we are a family friendly firm who supports our employees and their families.
Developing a masterplan for utility infrastructure that has to stand the test of 30, 40 or more years in an ever changing world is a challenge and drives me. It’s all about the engineering with a side order of architecture! These are great opportunities to drive sustainability and resiliency.
I’ve spent my entire 20-year career crafting solutions to complex engineering challenges faced by healthcare systems. I thrive on collaborating with project teams to creatively and methodically engineer buildings that benefit the built environment while meeting owners' needs.
A dream doesn't become reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination and hard work. TLC makes it happen for our clients.
TLC has a unique culture of results-focused staff who enjoy the challenge of the work, as well as the relationships with their co-workers. I’ve worked at several great firms in my career, but I have enjoyed my time at TLC more than any of the others. The opportunities for career growth and education, working on challenging projects, and the general atmosphere make TLC a great place to spend your workday as well as build a long term career.
Our operations folks are dedicated to their clients and our support people are dedicated to our operations staff. The common thread in all of these is respect. An organization built upon that dedication is one I am proud to be a participant in, both in terms of working and being a part of the ownership. TLC is dedicated to its employees.
The most rewarding part of what I do is take an owner’s “idea” and create a physical space that people can use and enjoy. Thinking through the earliest design concepts, developing the detailed engineering, on into construction, and returning to see people using the facility; this is why I do what I do.
Since I was a little kid I always loved building things. I really enjoy helping architects realize their design vision and helping contractors navigate the construction process. TLC shares and supports my commitment to producing excellent work and providing excellent service. It’s rewarding to share my experience with all the sharp up-and-comers here.
I am a true engineer in the sense that engineers are problem-solvers. Buildings are problems that need to be solved, that is why I engineer buildings. Most people get to work on one career-defining project during the course of their career. Since coming to TLC in 1996, I have had 12 of them.
I get satisfaction from managing challenging healthcare engineering projects and creating healthcare facilities that are safe, sustainable and beneficial to the communities in which we work.
I love the technology side of our business. It’s ever-changing, never stagnant. There’s always a new system to learn. I’m proud to be a leader at TLC because of the culture that is being encouraged. It’s people first, and since people are TLC's best assets, it should always be that way!
I enjoy figuring out how to model stuff no one has done before. Part of being an engineer is understanding how the world around us works in a way that most people don’t observe. I think it’s our duty to use that knowledge to provide the most efficient, innovative, and cost effective designs to our clients.
The people at TLC make TLC a firm I am proud to work for; they make it feel like a second home.
I have always been interested in how things work. As an engineer and a commissioning agent, I am able to stimulate this curiosity on a daily basis. Additionally, the commissioning process often provides an immediate and tangible sense of accomplishment. TLC provides a very supportive organization that encourages people to seek out the facets of MEP engineering that appeal to them the most, and then gives them the opportunity to turn their interests into a meaningful and lifelong career.
TLC makes an intentional effort to have ongoing and transparent dialogue with stakeholders at all levels on each of our projects to increase everyone’s chance of a successful outcome.
When you walk into a building and feel comfortable, then I know I’ve done my job. Being surrounded by talented, passionate folks that work together to create the most technically advanced, efficient, creative built environment.
I'm proud of the commitment by my fellow leaders to pursue excellence and maintain the organization at the top in the industry. I believe in the organization principles and methods, for technical knowledge and team building, to provide superior consulting engineering services in the building industry.
I develop relationships with clients, and other industry professionals. Our engineers are trusted advisors to our clients and provide a very valuable service. I enjoy bridging the gap between a client need and an engineering solution. TLC has been in business for over 65 years and has developed a well-respected reputation among our clients and business partners. I’m proud to be part of TLC.
TLC fosters creative thinking, innovation, it constantly pushes us to deliver unique solutions to our clients. And the best part, it takes place in a family environment.
TLC offers our staff the opportunity to pursue our personal goals for professional and personal growth through a diverse blend of project types and ability to contribute in multiple roles. TLC’s structure allows us to offer customized boutique level services similar to a small firm, balanced with the resources and capabilities of a large firm through our network of offices and diversity of staff experience/capabilities.
Pointing at a building and saying “I helped design that…” makes all the difference for me.
As the COO, I get the pleasure of getting involved in so many different things – be it complex projects and challenges, driving process improvement, and assuring that our staff is prepared for any project you might throw at them.,During my time at TLC I’ve had the opportunity to work on so many signature projects that other engineers wait their whole lives to get involved in. Projects that really make a difference in people’s lives and the communities they live in.
Many of the projects we work on create stunning spaces and I want to be sure that the buildings we design are safe. Fire protection engineering is one of the systems in a building that you hope you never need, but when you do, you want to be sure that it will do it’s job to protect the building and the occupants. A core value of TLC is to provide exceptional and accurate engineering design services.
TLC is an engineering leader in many categories of building design. We are taking strong steps to make all types of new buildings comfortable and sustainable.
It’s a great satisfaction to work on, design and see the constructing of complicated healthcare projects. TLC has a great reputation and wherever I go to pursue work I’m welcomed by clients and owners.
I love solving challenges.
By joining TLC, our focus is now 100% on our technical efforts for our clients.
TLC supports their people.
TLC makes a difference locally, whether we’re doing a new police station and getting our local law enforcement to move out of ‘temporary’ trailers, or improving a local public school’s air conditioning. The big headliner projects are fun to work on and challenging, but the everyday projects are making a difference in people’s lives in our community on a daily basis.
John has a strong background in architectural engineering. His extensive experience includes project management and design of mechanical and plumbing building systems - at healthcare and assisted living facilities, medical offices, educational institutions, municipal and recreational facilities and commercial buildings. Strong relationships with regulatory agencies and departments (IDPH, etc).
TLC supports continuing education and certification. I’ve never been turned down for an opportunity to pursue education. TLC rewards hard work and effort.
I practice engineering because the results of my work can improve and protect the health, safety and welfare of human beings. In short, it’s not my career, it’s my cause. TLC’s leadership has made a commitment to sustainability and high performance design, which aligns with my personal values and desires.
Buildings can be designed, constructed, and operated to have a positive impact, on our environment, our health, and on our children, and I want to be part of making it happen. TLC goes to the effort of analyzing firm metrics and then acting upon this data to continually improve our workplace experience. TLC has shown a great commitment to sustainability, both as a service and as a corporate philosophy, to work-life balance, and to diversity of ideas throughout the firm.
It’s the challenges that bring me to work every day - there are opportunities for learning, professional growth and personal satisfaction.
I am a problem solver and love the challenge to solve complicated problems to advance the world. I love the people at TLC and love the innovation, serving clients and helping people.
As an engineer, I love solving challenging problems. Working with our clients to solve their design and operations challenges, to help create high performing buildings that are functional and beautiful is incredibly satisfying! In my 25 years at TLC, I have seen us grow tremendously - in size, in reach, in imagination. I have been given tremendous technical, growth and leadership opportunities, and am proud to be part of giving those same opportunities to the next generation of engineers.
I am most proud of how in my small way I have help shape the healthcare group and contribute to setting the standards that has made us a major contributor to the firm and industry. I have watched the firm evolve from 35 employees to close to 400. When the shareholder program was enacted it provided an avenue for those who embraced leadership to help determine the firms direction and have a voice.
As an engineer, I like to solve challenges and make my designs better. Designing and commissioning high performing buildings that perform optimally takes a lot of effort, but provides me with great level of satisfaction.
I enjoy being able to work on a variety of projects and to see how the final product helps solve a problem for our clients. I started as an intern with TLC and was given all the opportunities to grow and develop into the leadership role that I have today.
Hospitals can be challenging buildings; working to find solutions that seek to improve the health and well-being of all those that work, visit and are cared for within a facility is most rewarding part of being a Healthcare Engineer. I’m proud to work at TLC because I’m surrounded by people that want to make a difference.

Knowing that I have contributed value, working as a team member with others to complete an efficient, operational facility is rewarding. TLC allows me the opportunity to contribute as a team member on high performance systems for clients who appreciate and value that contribution. I believe TLC does great work, has had great project opportunities, is respected, stands behind the work, and is a great engineering firm for development of the younger engineers. I have been grateful to have been a shareholder in the firm and to work with a great group of individuals I am proud to consider as friends.
I love my job! I don’t think a lot of people can say that. I love the relationships built with the many people I work with, both internal and external. I love the process of creating solutions to problems of all kinds. The more challenging the project, the more I enjoy it. TLC is a great company with a great history of doing great projects. I knew this before I came to TLC and now I get to be a part of the greatness. That was what I thought when I came to TLC 16 years ago and that feeling has never let up. I found fantastic opportunities the minute I walked in the door at TLC.
I enjoy designing low voltage systems because there are always different challenges and the technology keeps evolving so you never stop learning. I love the fact that TLC is an employee owned company. We all work for the benefit of the group and the benefits get distributed in the group.
I take great pride in helping our engineers and production staff stay on the cutting edge of technology. TLC is a great firm to work for. I enjoy all the challenges that are presented to me and I truly believe that TLC is the best in the industry. I am proud to be a shareholder at TLC.

I choose TLC because our team is changing the world to be a better place.
I truly enjoy the relationships inside and outside of the firm that I have developed over the past 20+ years in Orlando. The projects have been, and continue to be, varied and transformative to the Central Florida landscape. I take great pride in knowing that the people visiting Central Florida will arrive in an airport, go to the convention center, experience theme parks, all facilities that TLC has contributed to over the years.
