Overview

Williams College’s new 126,000-SF, world-class venue supports theater and dance students in their pursuit of artistic excellence and serves as the home for the renowned Williamstown Theatre Festival during the summer months. The MainStage proscenium theatre incorporates numerous features to enhance the acoustic environment for dramatic and musical theatre presentations, amplified music, film projection, and other uses. Features include operable acoustic curtains, special wall surface shaping, and frequency-selective, sound-diffusive balcony fronts.

The center of student performance, rehearsal, and teaching activity is the three-level, 150-seat, black box CenterStage theatre, supported by large rehearsal spaces for directing, acting, and dance. Flexibility and functionality are served with moveable balconies, a lift, and sliding “barn doors” for access to the lobby.

Other facilities include dance rehearsal and performance spaces, a design and media classroom, scenic and wardrobe shops, department offices, and support areas.
