Hurricane Irma caused major damage across much of Florida, triggering prolonged power outages at some nursing homes. To better prepare for an emergency that could result in loss of power, the Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) has enforced an emergency power rule requiring all nursing homes within the state to be equipped with generators as well as 96 hours of fuel.
TLC is serving as an extension of AHCA’s staff by reviewing generator and electrical system plans to bring impacted facilities in compliance with the rule. So far, we have reviewed plans for 150+ facilities and anticipate performing field inspections in the near future.
