Overview
Florida Atlantic University and Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute joined forces for a new research building that includes a Class 10,000 clean room, 18 lab lines grouped in threes with 10’ X 6” modules, 40 offices and four bull pens housing five to six researchers each, all with views of the waterfront, the ultimate benefactor of their research.
Features
Multiple structural systems, such as concrete tilt-up panels, were used to create a unified and cost-efficient design. Energy savings over the ASHRAE 90.1 baseline are modeled to achieve savings of 43% for cooling, 49% for fans and 18% for lighting. The building is served by a water-cooled central energy plant that provides chilled water to a combination of 100% outside air and recirculation-type air handling units.
