Alachua County / City of Gainesville Senior Recreation Center

Overview

Alachua County and the City of Gainesville joined forces to create a modern, sustainable senior center that achieved LEED Gold certification. The one-story center includes administrative space, classrooms, a computer lab, a fitness center, and a commercial kitchen. The building also has an enhanced protection area designed for use as a shelter during hurricanes or other emergencies.

Features

TLC provided energy modeling early in design, making it easier and more cost effective to integrate the architectural and engineering solutions. Energy modeling helped drive the design decisions by comparing the energy impact of various systems and evaluating their benefits. The resulting design is projected to deliver a 22% energy savings over the ASHRAE 90.1 baseline and to reduce water consumption by 41%.
