Overview

TLC’s acoustics team supported the transformation of Columbia Law School’s Jerome Greene Hall Library by shaping an environment that accommodates diverse learning styles while enhancing comfort, clarity, and overall occupant experience. Working within the building’s historic 1960s architecture, the reimagined library features a dramatic double-height reading room, flexible study areas, and improved visual and acoustic connections across three levels. Open reading spaces, group study zones, private rooms, and individual carrels were carefully balanced to support both collaborative and focused work, with natural light and inviting internal stairs reinforcing a sense of openness. Sustainable materials and low-VOC finishes contribute to the project’s LEED Gold Commercial Interiors goal, while thoughtful acoustic design ensures the new library functions as a welcoming, inclusive, and high-performing academic environment that serves as a beacon for learning on Columbia’s campus.
