Overview

Structural design was provided for this nine-level speculative office building in Columbia, Maryland. As the premier building within the Howard Hughes Crescent Development master plan, it is located adjacent to Merriweather Post Pavilion and Symphony Woods.

The design features a steel and concrete composite beam floor system, hollow structural section tube-braced frame, and shallow concrete foundations—realizing the architectural vision of Design Collective of Baltimore, MD. The result was a cost-effective, efficient structural system delivered under budget and praised for its constructability by general contractor Harvey Cleary Builders.

Structural engineering services also included the adjacent nine-level precast concrete double-tee parking garage accommodating 1,200 vehicles, along with the design of cast-in-place concrete foundations and a 450-foot timber boardwalk on driven piles extending through the bio-retention area.
