The seven-story facility enhances the academic and clinical research programs offered at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine. The Center for Medical Simulation and Innovative Education features simulation areas for medical training, as well as an auditorium and conference and meeting rooms. Lab space for bench and translational research spans 40,000 square feet, with 27,000 square feet allocated to wet labs.
The design achieved a 42% reduction in energy compared to the ASHRAE 90.1-2007 baseline, keeping the building on track to attaining the LEED Silver certification goal. A sophisticated lighting control system with occupancy sensors, air-to-air energy recovery, low-flow plumbing fixtures and low-flow fume lab hoods contribute to the building’s energy efficiency.
