Overview

Offering a top-tier clinic and a state-of-the-art pediatric hospital, the 95-bed Nemours Children’s Hospital at Lake Nona opened to acclaim on October 22, 2012. Designing the six-story hospital from the ground up allowed the team to select the best design techniques and technology to provide a continuum of care throughout young patients’ treatment, as both outpatients and inpatients.

Features

Energy efficiency and sustainability were key design goals, with LEED Gold certification as the measure of success. TLC modeled the envelope, HVAC and lighting systems to simulate various building performance scenarios, enabling us to drive design decisions by evaluating the costs/benefits of these decisions. The freestanding, two-story central energy plant provides 3,900 tons of cooling. The CEP also houses four 2,250-kw emergency generators and fuel tanks.
