Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital Campus Revitalization
Overview
This facility stands as a remarkable testament to modern healthcare innovation, replacing the former facility with a sprawling new campus. The state-of-the-art hospital is thoughtfully designed to accommodate a total of 96 beds, distributed among three 24-bed medical and surgical units, a 12-bed intensive care unit, and a 12-bed step-down unit. This careful arrangement ensures that every patient, from those needing acute care to those on the path to recovery, has access to specialized attention and comfort. The birthing center is particularly impressive, featuring five labor, delivery, and recovery rooms, two dedicated C-section suites, triage and ante-partum spaces, two recovery rooms, 18 postpartum beds, and a 12-bed well-baby nursery, all crafted to support families at every stage of the childbirth journey.
Emergency and short-stay services are seamlessly integrated into the hospital’s design, with a 16-room emergency department and an 8-bed observation unit poised to deliver swift, responsive care for urgent needs. Advanced medical imaging is capable of serving up to 10 patients at a time, while the surgical suite boasts eight operating rooms, three invasive imaging rooms, five procedure rooms, and a 12-bed post-anesthesia care unit. Complementing these surgical facilities is a 40-bed prep and recovery area, ensuring patients experience a smooth transition before and after procedures. A robust suite of support services includes laboratory, pharmacy, central sterile processing, materials management, biomedical engineering, environmental services, engineering, central distribution, and respiratory therapy work together behind the scenes to maintain the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and patient care throughout the hospital.
The adjoining outpatient clinic further enhances the campus’s offerings with a diverse array of specialized services. Patients can access women’s imaging, GI procedures, radiation oncology, and renowned institutes such as the Ortho/Neuro Institute, the Bluhm Cardiovascular Institute, and the Robert H. Lurie Cancer Institute. Additional specialty clinics ensure that comprehensive care is always within reach. The project’s successful completion relied on conscientious medical equipment planning, careful procurement, and expertly coordinated delivery, installation, and activation processes. This strategic approach not only brought cutting-edge technology and resources to the forefront, but also created a vibrant, patient-focused environment where healing, innovation, and compassion converge every day.
