The modernization of an existing patient unit in an occupied facility required close coordination among the design team. The renovation of the 16-bed unit provided new exam rooms, three nursing stations, bathrooms, and procedure rooms.
During the renovation, an existing air handler unit servicing the area was replaced. Completely new medical gas systems were provided, along with associated piping and alarms. The electrical systems were completely replaced, including normal and emergency power distribution and lighting and lighting controls. Hot and cold water supply lines and sanitary lines were extended to accommodate the renovation. A water-based fire suppression system protects the unit. Raceways were provided for telephone, data lines, nurse call, and security system.
