SRQ Sarasota Bradenton International Airport Terminal Concourse Expansion
Overview
In recent years, the Sarasota Manatee International Airport has experienced a tremendous increase in passengers passing through the terminal. The new terminal expansion is designed to accommodate this growth and enhance travelers’ experience as they move through the airport. The expansion includes the addition of eight ground boarding gates and expansion of hold room capacity for Concourse B. Also included are concessions areas, improvement of arrival/departure gate areas, installation of an additional ingress/egress elevator system, and evaluation and upgrade of power and utilities.
This expansion was designed and bid in multiple phases to manage funding sources and the evolution of the concessions program. The design team worked through many pieces of this project to develop a cohesive overarching design approach for the Central Utility Plant and the electrical services distribution. Both required significant rework of the aging and original existing infrastructure while providing new electrical services capable of being appropriately sized well ahead of all load inputs.
Unique challenges to adding concessions to the existing terminal included finding new power for all the incoming loads and carefully examining the existing taxed system.
TLC also worked with Sarasota Manatee Aviation Authority (SMAA) on the Facility Infrastructure Improvement funding, helping to secure $10M to support the MEP upgrades.
