The DoSeum, San Antonio’s Museum of Kids

Overview

The DoSeum features interactive learning modules in literacy, science, health and art programs to help children develop problem-solving skills and spur creativity. There are six major permanent exhibition spaces, temporary exhibit space and 39,000 square feet of outdoor exhibit yards, along with a café, gift shop, theater, classrooms, offices, storage and lobby space and circulation areas.

Features

Energy modeling helped the design team develop strategies to reduce energy consumption, resulting in a predicted energy use intensity of 79.8 KBtu/sf/year, despite the need for a large volume of exhaust air necessary to provide cooling to exterior exhibit areas. Sustainable design features include a rainwater harvesting system and a highly efficient HVAC system.
