UF Health “The Oaks”

139,000 FT2
Gainesville, FL, USA
Healthcare / Outpatient Care
Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing / Technology
Project list

Overview

Located in space formerly occupied by an anchor store in The Oaks Mall, the largest mall in the area, this space was adapted with an inventive layout to promote a seamless, efficient and low stress experience for patients, visitors, and staff. UF Health is the only regional practice to perform novel procedures such as bionic eye retinal implants, artificial corneas, and miniature telescopes to improve vision loss caused by macular degeneration. With the demand for these services increasing, UF elected to co-locate the outpatient programs for three practices in one centralized space with plentiful public transportation and parking availability.

Features

Reusing the existing building envelope reduced the overall project costs, while taking advantage of 20-foot ceiling heights and existing utilities. The extraordinary plenum space provided access for the addition of variable refrigerant flow systems to efficiently condition the space, as well as providing for the required utilities to custom audiology booths that were delivered to the site fabricated and ready to install. Separate utility services from the clinic, including a dedicated generator and air-cooled chiller supported by rooftop air handling units, provide continuity of services in the surgical center.
